Welcome by the bride and groom

Laura Glass-Hess and Patrick Dougall

Blessings from friends and community

Dana Ford: Atlanta, Georgia

Dana and Patrick have known each other since before she moved back to Atlanta, many years ago.  Dana is a loyal and thoughtful friend, and the only person we’ve ever met who actually joined the circus.

Tim Stucky: West Palm Beach, Florida

Tim and Luzdy have known Laura since she was a baby in Tucson, Arizona, and they welcomed her back with open arms when she returned to Arizona in 2007.  Their house in Tucson, full of friendly animals and decorated with Latin American textiles and sanctuary movement posters, always felt like home.

Maggie Leonard: Atlanta, Georgia

Patrick has known Maggie for too many years to count.  Maggie keeps us spiritually grounded with her compassion for all people.  Another adventurer, she loves hiking outdoors which is where she is at the very minute actually (out at Glacier National Park).

Marissa King: Tulsa, Oklahoma

Marissa and Laura met at church in 2008, shortly after they both moved to Phoenix. Marissa is a voracious reader, an amazing traveling companion, and a wise friend who lives with care and intention. She taught Laura a lot about how to live fearlessly and talk to strangers.

Gaelyn Hurd: Atlanta, Georgia

Gaelyn and Patrick met before she moved back to Atlanta also, which was fewer years ago.  Gaelyn is a free spirit, incredibly empathetic, and has a gift for planning amazing themed parties that bring people together.

Aryn Baxter: Moscow, Idaho

Aryn and Laura have been friends since they met in Phoenix in 2013. Over the years they’ve shared camping trips, scone recipes, joy and tears, and Mexico travel.  Aryn is a world traveler with an adventurous and thoughtful spirit and continues to be a dependable source of wisdom and support.

Craig Durkin: Atlanta, Georgia

Craig and Patrick have been friends since, I don’t know, it’s been a long time!  Craig knows the location of every serviceberry tree in Atlanta, and the best bike route to get there. He lives life in a genuine way with a good mind for seeing what really matters.  He’s tried to get Patrick to come on adventures with him many times, and Patrick is finally taking him up on it!

Rosanne Placencia: Bronx, New York

Rosanne and Laura met as bridesmaids at a mutual friend’s wedding in Georgia in 2007.  As two adventurous young women struggling to figure out life in southern Arizona, they bonded quickly. Rosanne is a generous and empathetic friend, whose home has always been a healing place to cry, laugh, and cook together.

Aubrey Daniels and Katherine Kennedy: Atlanta, Georgia

Katherine and Aubrey are married already.  Patrick has known them for a long time, trust me.  They are kind and brilliant people.  Katherine is a farmer of vegetables and relationships.  She’s connected to everyone somehow.  You actually probably already know her.  Aubrey will debate economic philosophy while beating you at bite the bag (unless you’re Nate).  He is Patrick’s business partner and Density will forge us all together forever!

Marion and Judy Bontrager: Phoenix, Arizona

Judy is the first person Laura met at Trinity Mennonite Church in Phoenix in 2008.  Judy and Marion loved and supported Laura through a very formative decade of her life, with wise advice, unshakeable support, and even high-speed last-minute airport drop-offs. They are an inspiring illustration of how to live well, with compassion, energy and openness to new things.

Rob Clewley: Atlanta, Georgia

Patrick met Rob while he was in grad school.  Rob was joining GSU’s neuroscience department as a professor as Patrick was joining as a grad student.  Eventually they both found they like to jabber on about evolution and then just random sciency things.  After a PhD and postdoc in mathematics it’s safe to say he can do his multiplication and division, but he’s more likely to get excited about the music he makes with his girlfriend Natalie these days.

Blessings from family

Laura’s parents: Dale and Karen Glass-Hess

Patrick’s parents: Michael and Marilyn Dougall

Laura’s brother: Phillip Glass-Hess

Patrick’s sister: Diane Freedman

THE END

This is the part where we would be celebrating with all of you.  Please celebrate in your own way, and we hope to be with you in person soon!

Special thanks to:

Jonathan Davis, photographer

Jonathan and Laura went to high school together in Fairburn, Georgia; they were in art class together and he coached her powder-puff football team.  When Laura returned to Atlanta in 2016, Jonathan was a reassuring source of encouragement and occasional dating coach.
